January 2018-May 2019

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Augusta State Medical Prison – Grovetown, GA


Provided intensive psychotherapy treatment for 20 male offenders listed as level 4 mental health (i.e., most severe mental health level) using various therapeutic strategies and interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

  • Collaborated with the psychiatrist and clinical team in developing and implementing treatment plans in accordance with Georgia Department of Corrections policies and procedures

  • Prepared documentation for release and assisted with obtaining appropriate housing.

  • Reduced the number of Crisis Stabilization Unit admissions among offenders with a history of self-injurious behavior and suicide attempts

  • Taught offender’s daily life skills, problem solving strategies and developing interpersonal relations with individuals and families; collaborated with inmates’ families to assist in increasing social support for each inmate

  • Worked in a Specialized Mental Health Treatment Unit with inmates with Dementia and Traumatic Brain Injury

January 2011-December 2017

Provided individual counseling to the student population and couples counseling to those dating, engaged and married within the student population; counseled an average of 50 students per semester.

  • Collaborated with the Corps’ Chaplains Program in educating the chaplains about various issues they may encounter in their capacity (such as depression, rape, and alcohol poisoning)

  • Worked with the Resident Assistants training to educate those students about specific issues they may encounter in their capacity (such as such as depression, rape, and alcohol poisoning)

  • Collected data regarding the students in counseling for an end-of-year report (such as demographics, diagnoses, and key issues addressed) and for surveys of presentations given by all counseling staff over the course of the year for an end-of-year report

  • Provided Christ-based counseling with requested by students focused on helping students find answers in Biblical-based theological concepts
